If you are entering the field of behavioral health, congratulations. You have chosen an expanding field and decided to fulfill a growing need. The education, training and experience you require are challenging, but well worth the effort.
However, many pre-licensed therapists neglect the important aspect of their own therapy. It’s easy to put off when faced with papers to write, exams to prepare for, student loans to pay off, agency demands and so on. The road to becoming a licensed clinician is steep and often stressful. That’s why you need to be in therapy, not put it off!
If you want to be a good therapist, you need to also engage in good therapy. It’s really not an option. Every day you will interact with people who need your help and support. If you don’t also “fill your bucket” you simply won’t be able to do the kind of work you set out to do.
When I started out, nearly 30 years ago, I had the benefit of great support through supervisors and senior colleagues. I believe in providing that same support to incoming therapists. That’s why I offer discounted online session to pre-licensed therapists.
